FAQ
+ WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STILL LIFE, E-COMMERCE, AND STOP MOTION?
Still life photography consist of creative art direction that is cohesive with your brand’s colors, visuals, and message. These images are shot in a studio with a mix of artificial and natural lighting as well as set build-outs. Heavy branding is involved to get your photos to stand out from the rest.
E-commerce photography consists of a plain background with your product, diverting all the focus onto the product. Artificial lighting is used to take clear and sharp images of the product that is being marketed on a website.
Stop motion GIFs (graphic interchange format) consist of multiple, usually 2 ~ 5, images stacked together to create an illusion of a stop motion or video. This format consists of a loop of images that plays continuously and helps create a better narrative/ story.
+ WHY IS PHOTOGRAPHY SO EXPENSIVE?
“I can take photos with their phone and easily edit them on apps, so why would spend so much on photography?”
Yes, technically anyone can casually snap some photos on the go and use them to sell a product or service. (We get it —I used to run a jewelry brand I co-founded straight from my iPhone photos and VSCO filters.) But, that isn’t enough because you want a brand that is cohesive, stands out, and tells a unique story —all of which directly impact your sales. For images that consist of the mentioned traits, lots of planning, art direction, and professional equipment are needed.
In order to get started, here are the minimum investments that cost upwards of $10,000:
Professional camera and lens
Lighting setups
Equipment such as C-stands, backdrops/ backgrounds, tether cable, memory cards, etc.
Workspace essentials such as a computer, monitor, desk, chair, etc.
Hard drives and cloud storage services used to store and share high-quality images
Software programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Acrobat
Business and photography education
That’s the base cost to get started —hence photography is so expensive. But don’t worry, we only charge a small fraction of that cost!
Many unseen hours go into:
Prior to shoot day, many days are spent researching, understanding your brand, art directing, sourcing, and planning. A mood board and shot list are used to conceptualize our vision for the final images. Everything will be approved by you and coordinated efficiently to prevent any miscommunication.
On shoot day, a minimum of 5 hours is spent setting up equipment and moving it around, styling the setup and props for various sets, as well as cleaning up between and after the shoot. All of this is done by one person, with no assistance, so you can imagine how much time this requires.
Post-production, culling through images, and editing/ retouching, can take up to 2 hours per image. Then we deliver your beautiful images, really to be used digitally or on prints!
In addition to all that we invest in marketing, education, photography communities, misc expenses, etc. to better my business as well as the quality of work.
